About this car:
This car rolled off the Daimler Benz Sindelfingen (Stuttgart) production line in July 1972 and was one of the last W108’s sold in North America in May 1973.
It is all original apart from the front seat bolsters which were replaced by specialists with the same hides used in the original supplied by the Mercedes Benz Classic Centre of Irvine California USA. Wood trim was reconditioned by Madera Concepts of Goleta California.
The car holds the Antique Automobile Club of America Preservation Award and the Mercedes Benz Club of America Silver Star for Originality.
I procured the car from the Virginian Architect and Mercedes Benz collector David Van Duzer. Previously it was owned by William Sherman of Butler Pennsylvania who owned the car for over 30 years. Some years only driving a 100 or so miles a year, but always with an annual Mercedes Benz service. Over 120 service records and documents for the car are owned dating back to the 1970’s. Original manuals, spare tyre and tool kit are present.
The 4.5 V8 (Mercedes Benz M117 engine) was produced for W108/W109’s only for the North American and Australian export markets.
The car is finished with Glasurit paint in Mercedes Benz 904 Blue. The car has a rare combination of factory & optional 245 Blue ‘Roser’ leather seats, electric sunroof, paintcoat preservation, ‘Thermo King’ air conditioning and rear axle with limited slip differential.
Penned by the legendary French Mercedes Benz designer Paul Bracq, the W108 is known alongside other Bracq designs of the period such as the W113 ‘Pagoda’ for its low waistline and high greenhouse. This car is in exceptional mechanical order and exterior appearnce. It is testament to the build quality and technical innovation of Mercedes Benz.
Notable owners of Mercedes W108/W109’s include Steve McQueen, George Harrison, David Crosby (of Crosby, Stills & Nash) and Elvis Presley.
A lovely ivory ribbon can be supplied & fitted for weddings.
